Housing at SK Global House
I opted to dorm because I never got to do this here in Hawaii. Furthermore, I chose SK Global House because I wanted my own room and my own bathroom for privacy. There's actually a YouTube video (shown on the left) by Yonsei University that introduces SK Global House, its rooms and facilities. There's also a lot of exchange students from all over the world who show their rooms at the SK Global House, so if you want to look at a more realistic life at the dorms, you might want to check those out as well (just type in SK Global House onto YouTube and a bunch will show up). |
Here's how the application process went:
1. Yonsei will send you an email informing you the time at which the housing application will open.
Overall, not so bad, but kind of an anxious process if you've never gone through a dorm application (especially OVERSEAS) like me. However, it goes really smoothly as long as you:
1. Yonsei will send you an email informing you the time at which the housing application will open.
- Remember this is at KOREAN STANDARD TIME so make sure to make a reminder for yourself on when it is in HAWAII TIME
- Also, make an account on their housing website beforehand so you can apply right away when the clock hits (all information on logging in will be on the email they send you)
- Make sure you're ready to click on the application page as soon as the clock hits because housing is competitive at Yonsei! (I was on stand-by from one minute before and got into the site right away without crashing)
- The application is SUPER simple: just click which room you want at which dorm and you're done!
- NOTE: Yonsei will not send you an email telling you if you got the room, so you must check the housing status by logging into your account
- My housing status changed to PASS about 3 weeks after the application opened, so prepare to wait that much
- Must be done 10 days within your housing application result comes out
- Information on which account to transfer to will be given to you so write it out or print it out so you can just hand that to your bank teller
- Banks usually have a transfer fee for international wires so check with your bank for more info! (Bank of Hawaii had a $75 transfer fee)
Overall, not so bad, but kind of an anxious process if you've never gone through a dorm application (especially OVERSEAS) like me. However, it goes really smoothly as long as you:
- Check your emails
- Log in to your account to check housing status frequently
- Be on KOREAN TIME
